Battery Smart becomes India’s first to cross 100 million EV battery swaps
Date: 17 Dec 2025
In
a landmark milestone underscoring India’s rapidly accelerating electric
mobility transition, Battery Smart has become the first company in the country
to complete 100 million battery swaps across its network of electric two- and
three-wheelers.
Achieved
nearly five years after the company’s founding, this milestone reflects India’s
shift toward clean, affordable, and accessible electric mobility and highlights
Battery Smart’s commitment to a pan-India, tech-led, scalable battery-swapping
model built on affordability and strong ecosystem collaboration. Today, the
company is estimated to operate around 70% of India’s battery swapping
infrastructure.
To
celebrate this achievement and reinforce its commitment to drivers, Battery
Smart also launched the Driver Welfare Fund 2026, a Rs 10 crore
initiative aimed at enhancing the social and economic security of its driver
community. The fund will provide insurance and financial protection,
referral and reward programs, free swaps, skill development, and community
inclusion initiatives, benefiting approximately 1 lakh EV drivers.
Speaking
on the milestone, Battery Smart’s Co-founders Pulkit Khurana and Siddharth
Sikka noted, “Crossing 100 million swaps is a landmark for EV adoption in
India, not just for us. It demonstrates the potential of battery swapping to
make clean mobility accessible, affordable, and inclusive at scale. Each swap
represents a choice, a driver choosing clean mobility over combustion,
assurance over anxiety and improved uptime over long waiting hours. This
achievement belongs to our community of drivers, battery swap station partners,
OEM collaborators, investors, and policymakers who believed that battery
swapping could succeed at scale in India.
Looking
ahead, the Driver Welfare Fund reinforces our commitment to the community that
made this possible. As we continue to grow, we remain focused on strengthening
India’s EV mobility backbone, powered by smarter IoT batteries, more efficient
station operations, and robust safety systems. This milestone is just the
beginning, and together, we are building the future of clean mobility for
India.”
Battery
Smart plans to expand to 100 more cities by 2026, deploy thousands of
additional swap stations, and scale daily swaps to meet growing demand from
commercial EV operators. The roadmap also includes investments in
next-generation safety systems and enhanced IoT intelligence, while the company
continues collaborating with regulators and industry stakeholders to accelerate
India’s clean mobility transition.
